Orson Scott Card appeared today alongside Earth Unaware co-author Aaron Johnston at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, an annual event held this year at the University of Southern California. According to the Los AngelesTimes, when asked about potential sequels to the Ender's Game film, there is one film in particular Card hopes never hits the big screen:
"'Speaker for the Dead' is unfilmable," Card said in response to a question from the audience. "It consists of talking heads, interrupted by moments of excruciating and unwatchable violence. Now, I admit, there's plenty of unwatchable violence in film, but never attached to my name.He also warned audiences to keep in mind that they will be disappointed if they head into the film expecting "the same experience as reading the book."
"'Speaker for the Dead, I don't want it to be filmed. I can't imagine it being filmed'."
Admission to the book festival is free and will be taking place at USC through tomorrow.
